She has a pretty face. The Moon is scrubbed
in with a damp sponge. The stars are srubbies too. The background color is purples and white
with a medium blue on top. The semi-opaque black
lets the background colors show through a

Witch Painting ! THE Harlequin SISTERS - Folk Art on Recycled Framed Wood - Halloween Magic !

This is my new Witch Painting. I havent done any Witches in Ages, but this idea was really strong. The title is 'The Harlequin Sisters'. I'm totally happy with the colors. That means alot. The background design is other-worldy and a little spooky, which i also like. These Girls are capable of some Serious Magic!

Collage Art

An interesting story is behind this Mermaid Collage - Literally ! A favorite page from one of my Mermaid Books is copied for the background of this Mixed Media artwork. Acrylics are used to paint the head and body, then art paper, raffia and shells are added to embellish and add interest to the piece. Sealed with a Matte finish, and a sprinkle of blue deco-sand is tossed on for a final touch. Very textured and touchable. Ready for my Etsy shop soon. Gonna do a series of these on Canvas Art Boards. Could be displayed as is with the tooth-style hanger on back, or framed for a different look.

Superglue, the Devil and Scrabble Tiles

Yesterday I made some pendants from Scrabble Tiles. Evidently these are popular. But I couldnt find the right bails, so Plan B was copper wire, wrapped on the edges and making a loop at the top for the necklace. Well, the tile wouldnt stay in the wire. First I tried to glue it in with Gel formula SuperGlue. My new realization, and a long time coming, is that SuperGlue is the Devil, thats right. If it sticks to the object, it still leaves fingers stuck as well. Thats best case. Usually it doesnt work, has to be practically ripped off or scraped with sandpaper or something from the fingertips, smells, cloggs - making me wrench the cap off only to find its dried up after only one use - or oozes out onto something it shouldnt be on!

I will use it again, of course. But a wiser Loralai will buy those single-use kind (which cost more and will still stick my fingers together) and try to work over something I dont need, like my Hubby's workbench :).

But oh yeah, the glue didnt work at all. Finally i smothered the whole thing in resin glaze, which made a mess and looked hideous but held the wire.

Then Hubby decided to cut a groove in the tile to hold the wire, which worked Great. Then He whined about doing some more of them for me, of course. But still he did it so i will be listing them soon on Etsy. Then I will Be rich rich rich.

Mixed Media Collage

I have been so busy y'all. It seems like i need about another 4 hours each day to get everything done! I have my little cleaning jobs 2 or 3 times a week, plus my spoiled rotten family which consists of my Full Grown Hubby and my Full Grown Daughter both of whom are completely helpless. I am making paintings, watching demo videos and learning to do stuff, playing with beeswax and transfer medium, having a great time, and then there is the LISTINGS!! They seem to hog up so much of my Time!!GeeZooie!! I HAVE been selling a painting here and there, and my Seaglass Mermaid altered Art necklaces are doing pretty good. This means more time in paperwork, shipping, and replenishing depleted supplies which is Always happening!!! I try to knock off by 9-9:30 pm, then I'm back at it as soon as i get my peepers open, and a cup o'joe in my hand. Man is it a blast, but I also LOVE adding pics and words to my Blog too! Its kinda like my 'down' time. Its a nice deep breath. Now, I gotta check my sales sites - I'm doing a showcase on Etsy today! Bye!!!

NEW PRIMS! Beeswax Sealed

Hey ! I have been so busy with the art, I have started trying to hide the face that I'm spending like 12 hours a day on it. I dont even eat until really late when i consider myself 'done' for the day. It is an obsession i admit. But I've done some sales! Even an etsy sale which I was sure would NEVER happen. Ebay also! I'm making these Mermaid Altered ARt pendants from my old painting pics. They are doing well i think... Thank God for the success, I hope only to be worthy of the blessing the Good Lord keeps piling on me.

Whole New Art Venue!

These are all new paintings from www.loralai.com,
I'm also taking a few paintings to www.wholefoods.com
Whole Foods here in Dublin for an April show. My cuties will be on display for a month, and there's a contest on Earth Day too!
Maybe somebody will see my Fairy Art and who knows maybe sell more Art ! I'm enjoying the creation process so much, its just a joy to make these paintings.
I was gonna scrap the doll idea, but i did a soft cloth doll with a simple shape and painted body. It looked alot like Abby Buttons, i was able to wash and dry it, and my daughter Jessica is willing to get out her sewing machine and sew some doll patterns for me to paint and finish!
That feels like a good idea too. I did 2 more paintings today; one is called 'Gimme a Break' with Abby at the beach, and 'Dancing with the Stars', with Abby doing her Ballerina imitation. I'll post those soon.

The World of ABBY BUTTONS !

I have a name now for the red-head fairy: Abigail Buttons! I finished a series of painting with her holding her animal pals, now i'm off to explore the rest of Abby's World! I'm interested in doing a Summer show locally, so I'll be working hard to get my inventory together. BTW, dolls and boxes are out, fairy wands, tote bag kits, embellished notecards and framed prints are in. I hafta make sure I really love everything i'm doing. If it starts to be mundane or I find myself dreading a project, then I simply drop it, change it and move on. The vibes must always be positive so I end up with a Fun, Happy Abby.

A VERY Useful Book for ALL ARTists and Crafters

I have found a Super Helpful book full of great advice for all handmade & original sellers of arts and crafts and really ANY business owner.

It's by Sandra McCall (www.mycraftivity.com) and North Light Books. She is a Mixed Media wizard who is so very successful at everything from sales to teaching. She gives exact detailed information on how to market your crafts. Her new book is called 'The savvy Crafter's GUIDE TO SUCCESS'.

I have gathered bits and pieces of valuable information along my way, but here they ALL are in one comprehensive guide full of Mixed Media Artists and examples of their work which is very inspiring. There's also a resource guide and online information. DO check it out. I'm gonna follow her advice to the letter, which has got me started on this blog. My sales this year are really gonna grow.

SIMPLE Ways to Feel SIMPLY GREAT

SIMPLE WAYS to FEEL SIMPLY GREAT!

I was just thinking How Great it is to just Be. It's really the Small things that are the Greatest Blessings. Here are a few:

Take a Hot Shower and put on your Hubby's Pj's.

Lay on the couch and watch 'The Golden Girls'.

Order a Pizza and have it delivered.

Get up early and have coffee on the porch.

Buy an Old Quilt from the Thrift Store.

Watch Key Largo when its raining.

Adopt an animal from a Shelter.

As an Artist, I really see the beauty in all things; life can be quite wonderful.

Here are 2 more Fairies ! The Red one has denim stars, fabric and paper mermaid 'scales' and a red fabric bow. The wings are from the curtain i found at the Thrift! She WANTS to be a Mermaid, with her funny fake tail !
The next is called 'Life is a Garden of Daisies'. I really love daisies, and so does this Fairy Gardener. I made a Jewelry Box to go with this one, but i dont have a pic of it yet. I like the primitive kitty at the bottom. He's very curious. The Sunshine has glass beads and a little gold glitter.
I was up at 6:30 am working on the Art. It really consumes my life. My hubby took me to the movies this evening. We saw 'Madea goes to Jail' ! It was hilarious - the Madea parts - but some was sad. I cried a teeny bit but I didnt let the Old Man know it. He thinks I'm tough. SIKE!!
But the whole time I was thinking what to do with this really skinny tall Cabinet door I bought today.....hmmmm.........

LOGO !!!!

YIPPEE!!! i got a new printer - the kind by Kodak that uses pigment instead of ink and therefore (???) costs way less to buy - well THAT caused us to have to upgrade to another Windows version. Which means we have to copy everything all over again. But the new version kept getting a hiccup. Which means I had to get my hubby up and make him fix the problem.

Then I got my art LOGO on my Blog spot! That's ALL i EVER Wanted!!! Boy, has he heard that one before ! :)))

Check out these CUTE Fairies!

They are my NEW Series of Mixed Media Folk Art Fairies ! They are going to be in my next local venue. I won't be really ready for a few months i think. Gonna do matching jewelry boxes, note cards and envelopes, maybe magnets, tote bags - who knows. Maybe stationary.
I really love the soft country style. Just like my quilts ! The colors are soft and cozy - roses, plaids, flowers, swirls, a stripe or two. I also use some natural raffia, buttons, fabric and collage paper. The wood surface is sanded when the paint is dry to give a weathered effect. My Wood Cabinet Doors are purchased from Habitat for Humanity's build it again center. The cash goes back to them, so I feel good about that. The paintings are sealed and ready to hang.

You can see I also love Thrift Stores ! I get some ideas just roaming around looking at fabrics and do-dads. The white lacy wings on this one are part of a trim on a sheer curtain. I will be sad when I've used all the 'wings' on that curtain! Hopefully I'll find another one. This girl has reddish hair that matches mine when it isn't dyed blonde, and pays homage to my red-headed Irish relatives !

If you want one of these cuties or more details about them, just go to my website: www.loralai.com or www.etsy.com/mermaidartbyloralai. Pricing, size, weight, it's all there.
And check back often. I'm really into this blog thing. That means dinner will occassionally be late, darling !
